BCCSL updates to timelines and playoff procedures

December 5, 2018 @ 9:53AM

The BC Coastal Soccer League wishes to provide a timeline and administrative updates to district members and their clubs, teams and families.  Due to the large number of questions and sheer quantity of divisions in the BCCSL, we’d like to confirm all the upcoming plans and timelines below.

STANDINGS FOR U13-U18 (all divisions)

There will clearly be many divisions that have an uneven number of games played at the end of the season. For divisions where an uneven number of games were played by teams, a “points per game” formula will be used to determine final standings.

METRO DIVISION WINNERS

It is confirmed that the winner of each BCCSL metro division will earn a direct spot to the BC Soccer Provincial Cup.

BCCSL TIE-BREAKING FORMULA

For league play until mid December:

  1. Highest average points per game across all East and West, or combined East/West divisions will determine the actual ranking of teams from first place through the last place in combined East/West divisions
  2. Should teams have the same average points per game, head to head results will be the first tie-breaker
  3. If there are no head to head games or the total points between the teams is level, goal difference will be looked at next
  4. If goal difference is the same, then most goals scored (based on average per game) will be looked at next
  5. If all these are the same, a coin toss will break the tie.

For League Championship play:

  1. Winner of the final game
  2. If weather prevents the League Championship Finals games to be played, the winner will be declared based on most points accrued in the LC phase of play. If the teams played a different number of games, the team with the highest average points per game in the division will be determined to be the LC champion
  3. Should teams have the same average points per game, head to head results, in LC play only, will be the first tie-breaker
  4. If there are no head to head games or the total points between the teams is level goal difference will be looked at next
  5. Then most goals scored (based on average per game if necessary) if goal difference is the same
  6. If all these are the same, a coin toss will break the tie.

COASTAL CUP

This is a different competition than the Coastal league, and has its own set of rules and operating guidelines. Info can be found here: http://www.bccoastalcup.com/ but here is the guideline document relating to Coastal Cup:

WILDCARDS FOR COASTAL CUP

The top 4 teams who aren’t Champions from their respective District Coastal Cup playdowns will earn Wildcard spots. These would be the top 4 teams starting from the top of each League Championship group and going down to the next group if necessary.
